Below is a vehicle accident report on some of the unfortunate collisions that occurred in January.
Six People Involved in RV Accident, Three Killed
An accident on I-40 close to Shamrock killed three people and left three children injured. A 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Elizabeth Johanson, 35-years-old, was traveling on slick roads at a high speed when she lost control of her vehicle. Johanson “slid across the center median and into westbound traffic where the vehicle was broadsided by a 2005 Safari Cheetah RV headed west,” according to ABC 7.
Adam Johanson, 35-years-old, who was a passenger in the Explorer, and Elizabeth Johanson, both died later at Shamrock General Hospital. Another passenger, a 10-year-old girl, also died at the scene.
Man Hit Parked Car, Pronounced Dead at The Scene
A man is dead after hitting a parked car on 2400 block of North Hughes Street. Armando Garcia-Rivera, 28-years-old, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe when he lost control and hit a parked 2011 Kia Sorento. The crash caused the Tahoe to roll on its side.
Garcia-Rivera died at the scene. The Amarillo police say that speed, alcohol, and the fact that Garcia-Rivera was not wearing a seatbelt all contributed to the deadly crash.
Two Men Experience Injuries After Train Accident
Two men were taken to the hospital after an accident with a train on U.S. 60. The Randall County Fire Department stated, “A Ford F-250 traveling south on Johnson Ranch Road did not clear the train tracks in time and was struck by a westbound freight train.”
Single-Vehicle Crash Killed 12-Year-Old Boy
In Armstrong County, a single-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a young boy. Kayla Close, 18-years-old, was driving on US-287 when she “veered off the roadway into the center median about two-miles of Goodnight,” according to ABC 7.
She attempted “to get back on the road, but she lost control and the vehicle rolled over,” ABC 7 reported.
Close had a 12-year-old passenger in the vehicle who suffered serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
